The pancreas of a person that is affected with type I diabetes isn’t able to produce insulin, a hormone that breaks down food into energy that is then harvested by our cells. If the cells can’t harvest the energy, they won’t be able to function. There is no cure for type I diabetes, and even though it’s considered a chronic condition, people are able to live their lives normally. Advancement in medicine, patient education and research has made it possible to reduce the number of complications and it has also extended the life expectancy of diabetics considerably. Individuals diagnosed with type I diabetes are able to live as long as a healthy person, give they receive proper treatment and undergo some lifestyle changes.

So, what is different about type II diabetes? Individuals affected by type II diabetes still produce insulin, but their bodies ignore it. The insulin levels drop after a while because their pancreas overproduced it, their body ignored it and the pancreas isn’t able to keep up with the production anymore.
